About the Event
Bow-drill is a traditional fire starting method from this and other forest environments of the world. A cylindrical spindle of softer wood is wrapped into a bowstring and spun between a handhold and fireboard. After burning into the fireboard it accumulates a smoldering ember of powder that can be blown into flame. Come make a bowdrill set out of some quality local wood and try your hand, well your whole body and mind, at making fire the old way. I will share the technical method, form, and construction necessary for success, but ultimately it will be up to you, the participants, to achieve proficiency by practice and perserverence with this skill beyond this program.Â
Open to adults and youth ages 16 and up.
Tuition: Â $30 plus $20 material fee for all materials to make your set.
